Experience a distinct difference at Cedra. Far beyond being treated as an anonymous customer, our pharmaceutical staff invests in you with knowledge and care. We understand the diagnosis of a chronic disease can be difficult. For this reason, the services we provide are consistently thoughtful and deeply customized.
We educate you about your disease, medications, how to manage side effects, and other lifestyle modifications. When it comes to getting the right treatment covered, we’ll advocate for you in negotiations with your insurance company and inform you of patient programs and grants.
What is a Specialty Pharmacy?
A Specialty Pharmacy sells high-cost medications for serious and complex medical conditions, which often require additional support and processing. This makes a Specialty Pharmacy different from a regular retail pharmacy.
What is a Specialty Medication?
A Specialty Medication is a drug your doctor says is medically necessary. Medically necessary drugs usually treat specific, chronic, and sometimes rare conditions. These medications are not typically covered by insurance companies, and require a Prior Authorization.
What is a Prior Authorization?
A Prior Authorization is an extra step that insurance companies require before deciding if they will cover the costs of your medication (mainly the more expensive and hard to approve drugs).
Prior Authorization Process
At Cedra Pharmacy, we are experts in the handling of Prior Authorization, and will do everything possible to get your medication approved in a fast and economical way.
Once we receive your prescription, we can usually get an initial Prior Authorization decision from your insurance company within two weeks.
If your medication is denied, we will automatically start an Appeal on your behalf. The Appeal process can take up to a month, or longer if there are additional denials by your insurance company.
Every insurance company is different, so some medications may take longer to get approved than others. This depends on specific policy guidelines and patient medical history.
Please keep in mind that insurance companies are making it much more difficult to get approvals, because they do not want to pay the high cost for medications. Even if we do everything correctly, the insurance company is still the one making the decision, and they may refuse to cover your medication. We will do everything possible to keep this from happening.
We understand that this process can be frustrating, and appreciate your patience. Our #1 goal is to make things easier for you, provide the best service possible, and improve patient quality of life.
If your insurance company makes you transfer your prescription to another pharmacy, Cedra Pharmacy will still process the Prior Authorization, and Appeal if necessary, and help with the transfer when approved.
If you do not have insurance, we will help you enroll in a Patient Assistance Program, which minimizes your costs.
We offer free overnight medication delivery to the destination of your choice. If necessary, we will also provide our own drivers for emergency local deliveries.
We offer nursing service coordination, with IV and injectable drug therapy training upon request.
Please feel free to contact us anytime to discuss the status of your medication, or with any other questions that you may have.
Please call our customer service agent with questions, concerns, requests or problems. We will do our best to help you.
